Southern Bhutan

The southern Bhutan, which is a lowland region with semi-tropical forest with monsoon climate ranging from an elevation of 100m to 1000m, lies in the foothills of the Himalaya.  Its southernmost part forms the border with the Indian states of West Bengal and Assam.

Southern Bhutan, which comprises of the district of Samtse, Chukha, Tsirang, Dagana and Sarpang. Initially southern Bhutan was inhabited by Nepalese who came to Bhutan from Nepal at the beginning of this century.  With the government land allocation policy, we find people from east, west and north living in the region.
