Hotels in Bhutan
|
Hotels Bhutan has limited accommodation facilities for visitors and offers generally modest but clean hotels. Accommodations in Bhutan vary in quality and standards. Recently a couple of high end resorts and luxury hotels have been opened in some districts. Aman has built five hotel chains in Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey and Bumthang. Uma has one in Paro with plan to expand in some other districts. Taj Tashi a joint venture 5 starred premiun hotel has recently been completed in Thimphu. Other hotel chains like Oberoi and Banyaan Tree is expected to come to Bhutan. For stay in such hotels, your operators might charge you supplementary fees as the normal tariff does not cover these hotels. Visitors are advised not to expect luxury or five star hotel services as you go further to eastern Bhutan as the facilities are simple and minimum. Tour operators, as mandated by the government, provide you government approved hotels. Based on their quality infrastructure and services, Bhutan hotels have been classified into Grade (A), (B), and (C). These hotels are owned by the local Bhutanese and they are clean and well maintained ones with choices of foods. The other category of hotels -- standard and ordinary hotels are used by the locals and budjet travelers. But Government regulation restricts tour operators to put international travelers who come on pre-paid package tours in such facilities. N.B: There is a clear distinction between 5 star, luxury, boutique hotels and government approved hotels. However it is not between government approved hotels of Grade A, B & C as it is based on old government category. You will have to check it out with your operator. |
