Tertoen Pema Lingpa: the great treasure discoverer Pema Lingpa was by far the greatest tertoen to have been born and made discoveries in Bhutan. He was one of the five great tertoens propheseid by Guru Rinpoche. Pema LIngpa first discovered treasure from the riverine lake of Mebartsho at the age of twenty five in 1475 A.D. Since the he is said to have made discoveries of wide variety of scrolls, statues, and other sacred relics on no less than 43 occassions. The treasures texts which he unearthed from their places on concealments both in Tibet and Bhutan are said to fill twenty substancial volumes. The texts that he discocered, the dances he composed and the works of arts he commissioned are today the national heritage of Bhutan. The descendants of Pema Lingpa over the centuries has formed the most important lineage of nobilities in Bhutan and played a pivotal roles in its social, cultural and political history.
